August 3 | Plants that Attract Wildlife

University of Florida IFAS Master Gardener Glenn Huberman will teach audience members which South Florida plants to grow in their gardens in order to attract wildlife garden. Learn which plants to incorporate in your garden designs so that you can enjoy birds, butterflies and other desirable wildlife in your residential landscape.

August 18 | Bike Tour: Coral Rocks - Bike and Swim! 
location: Coral Gables Museum

Learn how the City Beautiful, Coral Gables, got its name.  Tour the earliest homes of Coral Gables via bicycle, and learn, how the City's iconic homes and landscapes were built out of local quarried oolitic limestone, commonly called 'coral rock'. Each craft style, historic building and garden tells a unique story. The Coral Gables Museum invites you to bring your swim suit and your bike lock because this tour ends at Venetian Pool, a former coral rock quarry!  Pool admission paid separately.
 
Gables Bike Tours are presented by Coral Gables Museum and Bike Walk Coral Gables. Gables Bike Tours are powered by Voss Water. Bike rentals and helmets (required for children under 16) are available at No Boundaries (305.444.3206), conveniently located across the street from the Museum.


Cost: $10; $5 for Museum members and children under 12.  Space is limited. Please RSVP to 305.603.8067

August 20 | South Florida Bromeliad Society Lecture

Bromeliad collector, Don Beadle, will speak on the his history and relationship with the billbergia bromeliad genus that ranges over a span of 40 years.  The presentation covers Don's first encounter with the billbergia bromeliad thru his addiction of learning to hybridize this beautiful species.

August 24 | Butterfly Garden Design 101
Time: 4:30 p.m.
Location: Kendale Lakes Branch – 15205 SW 88 St. | Miami, Florida

University of Florida IFAS Master Gardeners Jennifer Dewsnap-Shipley and Lorna Bravo will present a collection of South Florida plants home owners can grow in their backyards in order to attract and protect butterflies.   Class members will learn how to design a butterfly habitat in their gardens.
