Join the Miami Beach Botanic Garden for an exclusive tour through the private gardens and hidden oases of Miami Beach. This opportunity to see behind the gates and into the backyards of the Beach's most intriguing landscapes will inspire and astound. The tour is a wonderful way to learn what grows best in our coastal, sub-tropical climate, and to see what you can try in your garden designs.  Each homeowner's landscape and gardening style is distinct and personal, offering refreshing respite from the hustle and bustle of daily activities here on the Beach.

Join master gardener and beekeeper Mary Orbitt, as she introduces the fascinating backyard hobby of beekeeping. This is a homesteading skill that can provide you with your own honey and wax. Orbitt will demonstrate how you can create and maintain your own colony of bees, even if you live on the beach! Even if you do not plan on ever owning your own hive, this talk will answer questions about why bees are disappearing, and what plants you can design into your landscape in order to bring bees back to your garden.

The Dade Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society invites you to its 18th Native Plant Day, an annual public outreach and education day that will have activities for all ages.   Enjoy walks, lectures, plants and merchandise for sale, raffles and more. Bring your family and friends to enjoy this free day of fun and learning about South Florida natives and using indigenous plant species in your gardens and landscape designs. Explore the hammock full of ferns, forested wetland restoration and arboretum in this park as well as the exhibits at Native Plant Day.

Get exclusive access to private gardens in Miami and Palm Beach and hear directly from the landscape architects and designers about their collaborative process. How do clients and designers work together? What makes for a great, enduring collaboration? The Cultural Landscape Foundation's Garden Dialogues provides unique opportunities for small groups to visit some of today’s most beautiful gardens created by some of the most accomplished landscape designers currently in practice.

This garden features elegantly combined formal and informal elements, hints of English and French gardens, and a lush, complex plant palette. The geometry of a central rectilinear pool radiates outward through the exquisite use of paving materials, steps and botanical colonnades.  The garden was constructed by the Miami landscape architecture and design build firm, Geomantic Design, Inc. 

B: Phillip Hulitar Sculpture & Display Garden
Saturday, March 23rd, 3 to 4:30pm | Palm Beach

Adam Mills of Morgan Wheelock Incorporated, Landscape Architects 

The three-acre Philip Hulitar Sculpture Garden at The Society of the Four Arts features jewel like botanical embellishments, a stunning octagonal fountain centered on the wide terrace and rose and pale green Brazilian quartzite paths that lead to outdoor rooms.

C: Historical Gem

Lewis Aqüi of Lewis Aqüi Landscape + Architectural Design, LLC (LA2d) 

This lovingly restored historic home and garden, originally built in the 1920s, recalls an old European villa. A tile artist from Italy hand-painted the swimming pool tiles and garden benches, complementing the elegant vintage character and tropical plantings of this Morroccan-inspired garden.

D: Magical Mediterranean Garden
Sunday, March 24th, 3:30 to 5:00 | Palm Beach

Mario Nievera of Nievera Williams

Lush fragrant gardens surround a grand Mediterranean revival residence designed in 1928 by Marion Sims Wyeth. The newly created gardens include an elegant pool and fountain amid tall southern magnolias and date palms, with an inner courtyard is especially dramatic.

E: Casa de Miel
Sunday, March 24th, 6 to 8pm | Palm Beach

Mario Nievera of Nievera Williams

European landscapes inspired Casa De Miel’s gardens. Intricately patterned stone and brick pathways, sculpture, tiled fountains, coral stone terraces and a jewel like orchid house are carefully placed amongst giant Canary Island date palms, royal palms, and cascading bougainvillea.


March 26 | Florida Native Plant Society Miami-Dade

This program will cover Florida's endemic species – plants that are found in Florida and nowhere else on Earth. Some of these species are locally common, while others are among the rarest plants in the state.

Roger Hammer is a retired Miami-Dade County naturalist, author, photographer, and native plant aficionado. He is the author of Everglades Wildflowers, Florida Keys Wildflowers, A FalconGuide to Exploring Everglades National Park, Florida Icons: Fifty Classic Views of the Sunshine State and wildflower identification cards for different parts of Florida. He received the first Marjory Stoneman Douglas Award in 1982 from the Dade Chapter FNPS for "education, research, promotion, and preservation of native plants”; a Green Palmetto Award in Education from FNPS in 2003; a Lifetime Achievement Award from DCFNPS, Tropical Audubon Society and Miami Blue Chapter–North American Butterfly Association in 2011; and an Honorary Doctor of Science from FIU in 2012. Roger is a long-time member and supporter of FNPS.
